Jo Swope

February 8, 1924 — December 29, 2009

Jo Swope, 85, of La Grande, died Dec. 29. No services are planned at this time.

Jo was born Feb. 8, 1924.

She loved to play cards and was a National Bridge Master. She was glad to help anyone learn. She was great at poker, gin and pinochle. Whatever game she would play, those who knew her say she usually won. She held the winning title for many years at the La Grande Country Club.

Those who knew her say the most important thing in her life was her family and the greatest laughs and fun were had during time spent together. They say Jo's sense of humor was always there, even in hard times.

She is survived by her children, Shelly McKinnis of Walla Walla, Wash., Steve and Bronwyn Swope of Salt Lake City, Utah, and Mike and Mary Jane Swope of Boise; grandchildren; and great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband Wes Swope in October 2008; her son-in-law, Jim McKinnis in September 2008; and her parents.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Jo Swope Game Fund set up specifically for the residents at Grande Ronde Retirement and Assisted Living to use at their discretion.
