Jimmie "Jim" Dale Bane

July 8, 1925 — February 16, 2011

Jimmie Dale "Jim" Bane, 85, of Enterprise, died Feb. 16. A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at the Bollman Funeral Home chapel in Enterprise.

Jim was born July 8, 1925, at home on a farm north of Emmett, Idaho, the youngest of three children born to Mona Lenore (Riggs) and William James Bane. As a boy Jim lived at Emmett, then Star, then again Emmett, after his father died. He attended school at Emmett, but joined the Navy during World War II shortly before finishing his senior year of high school. He received his Emmett High School diploma by mail while serving in the Navy.

He went to boot camp at Farragut, Idaho, on Lake Pend Oreille where he attended the naval electrical school. Jim served on the USS ABSD4, a floating dry dock that repaired war-damaged ships in the South Pacific at Manus Island in the Admiralty Islands.

During the war, his mother and stepfather started an electrical business in Enterprise, which Jim joined after he got out of the Navy. In 1949 he married Gweneth Mae Filener at the Enterprise Community Church. Jim was in the Naval Reserve and was called back into the service during the Korean War. He served on the aircraft carrier Essex.

Throughout his life, Jim kept in touch with shipmates from both wars. Attending naval reunions was important to him, and traveling to these reunions gave Jim and Gwen the opportunity to see many parts of the United States.

In 1954, Jim and Gwen started their own successful electrical contracting business, J.D. Bane Electrician, and ran it for 39 years, apprenticing many local electricians, including their son. In 1993 Jim and Gwen sold the business to their son, James Bane, and daughter-in-law, Elizabeth Bane.

Jim and Gwen continued to help out at the business as long as they were able. Jim's interests were primarily the electrical business, renovating a number of commercial buildings in Enterprise and maintaining several acres of immaculate lawn, along with a little hunting and traveling as time allowed.

Survivors include his wife, Gweneth; son and daughter-in-law, James and Elizabeth Bane of Enterprise; sister, Minnie Sheets; two nephews; and two grandsons.

Memorial donations may be made to the charity of one's choice.
