Jerry Dwain Bailey

October 5, 1946 — March 23, 2005

Jerry Dwain Bailey, age 58, of Baker City and formerly of Enterprise and La Grande, died March 23, 2005 at St. Luke's Hospital in Boise, Idaho of natural causes. Viewing will be from 4-7 pm Monday at Gray's West and Company Pioneer Chapel in Baker. The funeral will begin at 2pm Tuesday at the Baker City Church of the Nazarene, 1250 Hughes Lane. A reception will follow at the church. Burial will be at Mt. Hope Cemetery.

Mr. Bailey was born October 5, 1946 to Willis and Barbara Nelson Bailey in Enterprise. He graduated from Enterprise High School in 1964 and attended Eastern Oregon College on a football scholarship. He graduated in 1968 with a degree in teaching. He received a letter of interest from the Dallas Cowboys before an injury ended his football career. He served in the Army as a medic in the Vietnam War and worked for US West, now known as Qwest for 28 years. He enjoyed horses, rodeos, motorcycle road trips, hunting, fishing, sports, woodworking, carpentry and spending time with his family. He was known for his quiet and gentle spirit, and for his unique sense of humor.

Survivors include his wife, Nancy of Baker City; children and their spouses, Joe and Dina Bailey of New Jersey and Brandy Bailey of Portland; stepson, Tyler Frakes of Eugene; his parents of Joseph; a sister and brother-in-law, Judy and Bob Johnson of Eugene; brothers and sisters-in-law, John and Cindy Bailey of Joseph and Jeff and Chris Bailey of Heppner; one granddaughter; and other relatives. A son, Bart Bailey, died earlier.

Memorials may be made to the Hope Fund at the Baker City Church of the Nazarene or to the Wildland Firefighters Foundation.
