Jeannine Baird, 80, of Enterprise, died March 21 at home with loved ones by her side after a long battle with Parkinson's Disease.
Jeannine was born Feb. 14, 1931, the middle child of three born to Benjamin and Mable Brill. She spent her youth in Yakima and graduated from Yakima High School in 1949. She then attended Yakima Valley Junior College.
She married Dick Baird on June 28, 1952. The couple raised three children in the Portland area.
After many years of being a mother and housewife, Jeannine went into the workforce at Portland Community College as a student financial aid counselor. She retired in 1989 after 14 years.
An avid animal lover, Jeannine always had pets and shared her love of animals with her children. While in Portland, she and Dick had an approved "pet therapy" Rottweiler and visited the ill and elderly with their affectionate pet, "Judge," a retired show dog.
After moving to Enterprise in 1999, Jeannine became involved in many organizations and spent countless hours with the Enterprise Library, Soroptimists, Community Connection, the Humane Society and the Hospital Auxiliary. Her hobbies included collecting antique dolls, rocks and minerals and many other collectibles. She will be most remembered for her extensive and museum-quality seashell collection. She received several awards from OMSI in Portland for her collection and display skills.
Jeannine was preceded in death by her parents.
She is survived by her husband, Dick Baird; her sister, Karen Brill of Seattle; her children and their spouses, Kathy Brennan Baird and David Koffs of San Juan Capistrano, Calif., Jeffrey and Michele Baird of Enterprise and Suzanne Baird Bean and Stephen of Portland; and her two granddaughters.
