James "Pops" Lee Weyant

January 15, 1940 — January 20, 2011

Jerald Lee "Pops" Weyant Sr., 71, of La Grande, died Jan. 20 at his residence. At the request of the family, there will be no services.

Jerald was born Jan. 15, 1940, to James Frank and Irma (O'Donnelly) Weyant in Los Angeles. He grew up and graduated from school in Long Beach.

He married Melissa D. Joy and they were married for 43 years. They later divorced. For most of his life, he worked as a laborer including at Royce Farms in La Grande, Cochran Farms in Baker City and for a short period on the railroad. He also served his country in the Army.

Jerald enjoyed fishing, camping and drawing. He loved to be outdoors taking care of his roses. His most favorite activity was caring for his family. That was his life. Jerald was a member of the Knights of Columbus and VFW, and he volunteered for the Salvation Army.

Chris Morrison provided Jerald with friendship before he died.

He is survived by his ex-wife, Melissa; and his children and their spouses, Jon and Jennifer Weyant of La Grande, Jerry Weyant and Megan of La Grande, Cristy and Kevin Egger of Pasco, Jerry and Teresa Vickery of Nampa, Idaho, Judy Gilliam of Louisiana, and Jeff and Autumn Weyant of Redding, Calif.; and several grandchildren, great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Robert A. Weyant; sister, Barbra Olson; brother, James Frank Weyant Jr.; and three uncles and one aunt.

A memorial fund has been established to help the family with funeral costs. Donations may be made through Loveland Funeral Chapel, 1508 Fourth St.
