James A. Weaver

June 30, 1941 — March 5, 2010

James A. Weaver, 68, of La Grande, died March 5 at his residence. Services will be held at 1 p.m. Monday at the Lighthouse Church. A reception will immediately follow the services. Viewing will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Loveland Funeral Chapel.

Known as Jim, he was born June 30, 1941, to Alberta (Tredere) and Roy A. Weaver in McCloud, Calif. He was married to Littie Warren from 1963 to 1974. He married Carol Ricker in 1977.

While working for Hughes and Ladd as a bridge superintendent on the Ladd Canyon section of I-84, Jim fell in love with the area. He loved the hunting opportunities and felt it would be a good place to raise his daughter, Brenda. He moved to La Grande from Grants Pass, starting Weaver Construction Co. in 1971, which operated until 2009.

Jim was a member of the Elks Club and the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation. He was a hunter and fisherman and enjoyed his jet boat and sport-fishing boat. He was a private pilot for 30 years, flying for business as well as pleasure. He also enjoyed playing golf, especially when visiting Arizona.

Survivors include his wife, Carol; daughter and son-in-law, Brenda and David Locke of Damascus; stepdaughter and step-son-in-law, Rebecca and Bill Grant of Milton-Freewater; stepson, Bradley J. Welch of La Grande; sisters, Anna Mayfield of Yuma, Ariz., Christine Weaver of Mill Valley, Calif., Jeanette Doine of Roseburg and Beverly Reeves of Gresham; sister-in-law, Peggy Weaver of Yuma, Ariz.; stepmother Lena Weaver of Stockton, Calif.; and seven grandchildren, one great--grandchild and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Roy Weaver.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation or Grande Ronde Hospice.
