James William Maier, 84, of Joseph, died Feb. 2 in Enterprise. A funeral service was held Feb. 8 at Grace Lutheran Church in Enterprise. His grandson, Pastor Timothy Winterstein of Fisher, Minn., officiated. Burial was at Prairie Creek Cemetery in Joseph.
Jim was born June 16, 1926, the youngest of six children to Pauline (Stuber) and Peter Maier in Albany.
Jim graduated from Albany Union High School in 1944, prior to serving two years in the Navy. He married Marilyn (Stiner) in 1945. Following Marilyn's death, he married Patricia (Hermo Boyd) in 1959.
For many years Jim owned and managed Maier Roofing Co. in Albany. The company was started by his father and was passed on to Jim's son, Steve. In 1993, Jim and Patti moved to Joseph where Jim continued to enjoy hunting and fishing as well as his many other interests including woodworking and stained glass. Jim's stained glass artistry is displayed in several area
buildings.
Jim was a life-long member of the Lutheran church.
Survivors are his wife, Patti; three daughters, Kathleen and her husband, Jim Winterstein, of Olympia, Wash., Christine Spring of Dallas, and Anne and her husband, Barney Wright, of Irvine, Calif.; son, Steve Boyd and his wife, Pitsachaporn, of Albany; 12 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents; and five siblings, Albert, Carl, John, Esther and Elsie.
