James E. Kohls

March 27, 1939 — August 25, 2009

James E. "Jim" Kohls, age 70, of Union, died August 25, 2009 at his home after a courageous battle with cancer. A graveside service will be held on Monday, August 31, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. at the Union Cemetery.

Jim was born on March 27, 1939 in Fruita, Colorado to E. H. "Ed" and Edna (Karp) Kohls. He spent his childhood in Fruita, graduating from Fruita High School in 1957. He married Sharon M. Wolverton in Fruita and that marriage ended in divorce. He lived and worked for the Public Service Company in the Evergreen, Kittredge area of Colorado for several years before moving to Eastern Oregon in 1973. He went to work for Oregon Trail Electric as a journeyman lineman and was service representative for Union and the outlying areas until his retirement in 1994. In 1975 he married Carol Laam in Elko, Nevada.

Jim and Carol farmed for several years and enjoyed horseback riding. He enjoyed four wheeling, fishing camping and traveling in his motor home. They spent many winters in Quartzite, Arizona. He also enjoyed woodworking and yard work.

Survivors include his wife, Carol Kohls of Union; son, Kenneth Wayne Kohls of Meeker, Colorado, daughter, Kelly Moomey of Meeker, Colorado, daughter, Becky Williams and son, Tom Mayberry, both of Union; twelve grandchildren; one great grandchild; sister, Rose Ella Kohls of Emmett, Idaho; five nephews; one niece and other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, daughter, Monica Goben, sister, Audrey Koops and two nephews.
