James William Huitt Ii

James William Huitt II, age 83, of La Grande, and formerly of Tygh Valley, died Saturday, February 19, 2005 at St. Lukes Hospital in Phoenix, Arizona. A service will be held on Saturday, February 26, 2005 at 10:00 a.m. at Daniels Chapel of the Valley in La Grande. Committal and interment will follow at the Grandview Cemetery. Viewing will be held on Friday from 4:00 until 6:00 p.m. at Daniels Chapel of the Valley.

Mr. Huitt was born on October 21, 1921, the son of James W. and Pearl (Apling) Huitt in Portland, Oregon. He was raised in the Sherwood Area. During World War II he served with the United States Navy and was awarded commondation of heroism of the battle of Guadal Canal. On May 4, 1946 he married Clary S. Johnson. From 1953 until 1973 they lived in Tygh Valley where he worked for the Tygh Valley Lumber Company. In 1973 they moved to La Grande. He enjoyed fishing, carpentry and being with family. His crazy humor and many thoughtful ways will be missed by those who loved him.

Survivors include his children, Lynda and Phil Peterson of Cove and James & Melody Huitt III of Union; eight grandchildren; six great grandchildren; brothers, Wesley and Ralph Huitt of both of Bandon, Glen Huitt of Tigard and Jerry Huitt of Oregon; sisters Nancy and Norma both of Coos Bay; and other relatives and friends. His wife preceded him in death on March 2, 1997.
