James "Jim" Alan Hilary

James A. "Jim" Hilary, lifetime resident, passed away Monday, February 10, 2025 at his home in La Grande.

James Alan was born on June 05, 1947 in La Grande, one of four children born to Harold Francis and Marian Marie (Sanderson) Hilary.  He was raised and educated in La Grande, graduating with the La Grande High School class of 1965.  He then entered the US Navy and after his honorable discharge he returned to La Grande where he worked for Boise Cascade, becoming a milling and drying operator.  He worked there for 32 years before illness forced his retirement.  

On October 14, 1995 Jim married Naomi (Heath) Conklin at the First Christian Church in La Grande.

Jim was an animal lover, especially his dogs, he was not a joiner, he humorously called himself "Lonewolf No Club". He loved riding his Harley in the summertime and spending time in his back yard. He loved his family and made sure his granddaughters always had a pool set up in the summer so they could swim.

Jim is survived by his wife of 29 years, Naomi of La Grande, sons & daughters-in-law, Nathan & Tami Conklin of La Grande, Nicholas & Christina Conklin of Union, two granddaughters, Addison and Alivia Conklin of La Grande; his brother Jerold Hilary of Portland, a sister Sally Nusser of Cove; nephews and nieces; other relatives and many friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Harold in 2002, Marian in 2010 and a sister Susan McCall.

Jim really despised the cold winter weather, therefore a memorial service will be planned in the spring or summer when it's warmer outside.
