James Wayne Hicks, Sr.

September 20, 1920 — May 10, 2010

James W. Hicks, Sr., age 89, of Joseph and formerly of La Grande, died May 10, 2010 at a care facility in Enterprise. A graveside service will be held on Saturday, May 16, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. at the Elgin Cemetery. A potluck will follow at 1:00 p.m. at the Rock Creek Grange. Arrangements are entrusted to Daniels~Knopp Funeral, Cremation & Life Celebration Center.

Jim was born on September 20, 1920 to Alfred and Sylvie (Owen) Hicks in Mansfield, Washington. He married Agnes McCain on November 13, 1945 in Cullman, Alabama. He then served with the Army-Air Force in the South Pacific. They moved to Oregon after his discharge.

Jim was involved with the Elgin VFW, where he was a life member. He helped to start the post and served in many different positions. After the Elgin Post closed he tranfered his membership to the EnterpriseVFW Post.

His wife, Agnes and son, Stephen, preceded him in death. He is survived by his son, Jim Hicks Jr. of Joseph; son and daughter-in-law, Larry and Paulette Hicks of Elgin and daughter and son-in-law, Sylvie and Phil Chrusoskie of Imbler. He has three grandsons and one granddaughter along with give great granddaughters and three great grandsons. He is also survived by one sister, Neva Myers of Spokane. He was preceded in death by siblings, Johnnie Hicks, Elsie Hicks, Henry Hicks, Harry Hicks, Bennie Hicks, Charlie Hicks, Mamie Kellogg and Mollie Henningsen.

Jim was an avid outdoorsman, hunter and fisherman. He was a farmer, logger, timber worker and also owned a Chevron Station for several years in Pendleton.
