James Grove Eveson

April 10, 1916 — June 24, 2002

James Grove Eveson, age 86, died at his home, June 24, 2002. Services will be held on Saturday, June 29, 2002 at 2:00 p.m. at the LDS Stake Center, 1802 Gekeler Lane in La Grande with viewing from 1:00 until 1:45 p.m.

Mr. Eveson was born on April 10, 1916 in Raymond, Alberta, Canada to Charles Harry and Sarah Eveson. He moved to La Grande in 1935 and graduated from La Grande High School with the class of 1936. He then went on to graduate from Draper School of Commerce.

Jim went into the Army in 1941. He served with the 41st Infantry Division 163 and 186 Companies. He served in the Pacific and was a Warrant Officer and received the Bronze Star. He served until December 1945. He became a US Citizen in Australia while serving with the Army.

On June 1, 1951 he and Charles Snyder became partners forming the CPA firm of Eveson & Snyder. They built the firm to be one of the largest accounting firms in Eastern Oregon and it still serves it's communities today. He was voted "Boss of the Year" twice.

Mr. Eveson was an honorary member of the Mavericks Riding Club and enjoyed riding his horse in parades and performing drill with the club all over Eastern Oregon.

Jim was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in many capacities within the church.

On June 15, 1962 he married Colleen Martin in the Salt Lake LDS Temple and they had just celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary.

He served on many city, county and state committees. He was a lifetime member of the Oregon Society of CPA's. He served with the Boy Scouts and on many school committees. He was a member of Knife and Fork, the Elks Lodge, the Lions Club and the Chamber of Commerce.

He enjoyed traveling with his wife to many parts of the world. He was a devoted and loving husband, father and grandfather.

Survivors include his wife, Colleen; sons and their wives, Toss and Tammy of Salt Lake City, Utah, Ray and Ginger of Beaverton, Oregon and David and Karma of Aloha, Oregon; 8 grandchildren. Sarah, Tyler, Anna, Brandon, Dylan, Erin, Cody and Collin; and many relatives and friends.

He will be missed by many.
