James Everett Dalton

March 14, 1926 — August 28, 2007

James Everett Dalton, age 81, of Umatilla and formerly of Baker City and La Grande, died Tuesday, August 28, 2007 at his home. A graveside service will begin at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 8th, 2007 at the Grandview Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Daniels Chapel of the Valley.

Mr. Dalton was born on March 14, 1926, the son of Isaac Clayton and Stella Viola (March) Dalton in La Grande. After graduating from La Grande High School he enlisted in the United States Navy. He served his country until he was honorably discharged in May of 1946.

Mr. Dalton was employed as a heavy equipment operator at Ashgrove Cement in Lime while living in Baker City. After his retirement he returned to La Grande for a few years before moving to Umatilla to be near family. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and camping.

Survivors include his children, Jack Dalton of Granger, Washington, Steven Dalton of La Grande, Thomas Dalton of Hermiston, Karen Halladay of Hermiston and Joe Dalton of La Grande; twelve grandchildren; several step-grandchildren and great grandchildren and other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by daughter, Beverly Dalton, a son, Don Everett Dalton in Vietnam and his wife, Patricia.
