James Logan Cooper

James Logan Cooper, 93, of La Grande, died Nov. 23 at Grande Ronde Retirement Center.

A memorial service will begin at 2 p.m. Monday, Nov. 26, in the Kingdom Hall in La Grande.

Jim was born Feb. 7, 1914, in Benton County, Mo. He attended college in Greeley, Colo., and volunteered for the Army Air Corps in 1939, retiring from the Air Force in 1961 as a senior master sergeant.

In 1942, Jim married Lucille (Love) Cooper, of Racket, Mo. They spent 21 years living in several countries including France, England and Panama, and several states while Jim served his country until his retirement.

They settled in La Grande in 1961, with their two children, Max and Paula, both of whom graduated from La Grande in 1963 and 1965, respectively.

Gardening became Jim's main interest in his years following retirement. He grew produce, which he shared with many friends and neighbors throughout the years. His other hobby was woodworking and furniture making, many pieces of which are in his children's homes.

Jim is survived by his wife of 65 years, Lucille; his children, Max Cooper of Kaneohe, Hawaii, and Paula Rubio of Durham, N.C.; five grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
