Jacqueline "Jackie" McFetridge Goodman, 78, of Joseph, died March 7 at Wallowa Memorial Hospital after a battle with cancer. Jackie requested no services but wanted a celebration of life. Arrangements will be made and announced later.
Jackie was born July 24, 1932, in Lewiston to H.M. "Mike" and Joyce (Clark) McFetridge. She grew up in Flora.
In 1941, her family moved to Joseph where she graduated from high school in 1950. She was a cheerleader. In 1950, she was queen of Chief Joseph Days.
After graduating from Joseph High School, she moved to Spokane to attend Kinmen Business School where she met Forrest Goodman. They married in August 1951.
Forrest's career took Jackie to live overseas with their three children for 15 years. They lived in Japan, Taiwan and Korea.
Jackie was an executive secretary during the years overseas working for the U.S. Naval Exchange System.
In 1977, Jackie and her family moved back to Spokane.
In 1979, Jackie and her family moved to Kent, Wash. She began working for Boeing as a secretary in 1980. She was on the team that built the Boeing 777. She also worked on one of the cruise missile programs. She was very proud of that.
Jackie divorced in 1985. In 1995, Jackie retired from Boeing and moved back to Joseph to enjoy her retired years in the town she loved.
She enjoyed her retirement years reading lots of books and spending time with her parents until their deaths. She enjoyed many summer visits from her grandchildren.
Jackie was involved with the Soroptimists for a short period of time. In 2000, Jackie rode in the Chief Joseph Days parade to celebrate her 50th anniversary as queen.
Jackie is survived by her three children, Steven Goodman of Spokane, Kimberly Akers and her husband, Richard, of Australia and Michael Goodman of Joseph. Michael was Jackie's caregiver during her illness.
She is also survived by her brother, Gary McFetridge and his wife, Glenda, of Joseph; eight grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Jackie was preceded in death by her parents, Mike and Joyce McFetridge.
The family requests that people donate a favorite book to their local libraries in Jackie's name in lieu of flowers. Or, make a donation to the American Cancer Society.
