Jack William Schultz, age 88, of La Grande Died Wednesday, March 24, 2004 at a local care center. A celebration of life will be held on Monday, March 29, 2004 at 1:00 p.m. at Daniels Chapel of the Valley with Pastor Roger Cochran of Trinity Baptist Church officiating. Private Entombment will be held at the Grandview Cemetery Mausoleum. Family and friends may call from 4 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. on Sunday, March 28, 2004 at Daniels Chapel of the Valley, 1502 7th Street. Arrangements are entrusted to Daniels Chapel of the Valley.
Jack William Schultz was born in Baker, Oregon on January 2, 1916, to Joe and Edith Mylin Schultz. He went to work for the Union Pacific Railroad in 1936. He joined the Marine Corp in 1943 and served in the South Pacific. While in the Marine Corp he married Frances Sinclair. She died in 1984. In 1986 he married Olive Bird in Reno, Nevada.
He belonged to the Eagles Lodge, American Legion and the Elks Lodge, he was Elk of the year in 1968 - 69.
He is survived by his wife Olive, three step children, Margaret Alvarado of Simi Valley, California, Edward Bird of El Paso, Texas and Walter and Dixie Bird of Dixie, Washington; stepdaughter in-law Mary Wakeman of Cedarville, California; ten step grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. His mother and father and two sisters died earlier.
