Longtime Walla Walla and Enterprise resident Alfred M. "Jack" Hays, 84, died June 10 in Walla Walla. A memorial graveside service will begin at 11 a.m. Friday at the Enterprise Cemetery.

Jack was born Aug. 6, 1921, in Enterprise to Omar H. and Anna L. Hays. He attended and graduated from Enterprise schools. He served honorably for four years in the Army during World War II. After returning from military service he married Jean Ratcliff in Enterprise, where they resided until 1964.

Jack worked for Pacific Power and Light for 33 years in Enterprise and Walla Walla, retiring in 1983. After retirement, Jack and Jean enjoyed traveling. They lived in Yuma, Ariz., in the winter months. He was a lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the Elks. He remained very active and enjoyed socializing and visiting with family and many friends. He especially enjoyed fishing, hunting and golf. He prided himself in still walking the many golf courses where he played.

He is survived by his wife, of Walla Walla; sons and daughter-in-law, Tom and Victoria of Vancouver, Wash., and Tony of Juneau, Alaska; daughter and son-in-law Jackie and Bob Schneider of Spokane; two grandsons; sisters Marge McBride and Freida Hansen; and brothers Buck, Bill and Frank Hays.
