With broken hearts we say goodbye to our precious child Jack. Jack lost his battle with brain cancer, in just three short months. We will miss his infectious charm, his quick wit, his loving nature and of course his dimpled cheeks and his beautiful red hair. Jack was never happier than when he was surrounded by family, and thankfully he was able to die at home in our arms.
Jack was an old soul and wise beyond his years. Although he was here for such a short time, we know he lived his full life here with us. We are grateful to have been blessed enough to be the ones chosen to support and fulfill his life's journey. He courageously guided us through this difficult time and it is from the lessons we learned from him that we find our strength and the direction to carry-on.
Jack taught us the importance of living life moment to moment, to
laugh often, to show our love for each other daily, to appreciate
life's simple gifts, to let go of our anger and pain, to bravely face our fear, and to not project our wants onto the future but to embrace the here and now.
Jack and his dog Haakon were laid to rest next to his Great Grandparents, Bob and Julie Kenedy, his Aunt Laurie Malcom and his Grandfather, Bruce Malcom in a private family ceremony in Pendleton, Oregon on Friday, June 25th, 2004. A Memorial Service in celebration of Jack's life will be held at Elk Rock Gardens of The Bishop's Close in Portland, Oregon on Thursday, July 15th, 2004 at 10:30 a.m. A picnic reception with music, balloons and hot dogs will follow the service; families are encouraged to bring their children.
We have been overwhelmed by the love and support we have received from our family, and from old and new friends both near and far. Thank you all for helping make Jack's recent and last birthday his best.
Jack is survived by his parents, Will Carey and Julie Malcom Carey, and his brother, Charley Malcom Carey of Portland; his grandmothers, Arlene Malcom of Pendleton and Audrey Carey of La Grande; uncles, Steve Malcom and Jim Malcom of Pendleton, Bob Carey of Portland, aunts, Patricia Malcom and Julie Malcom of Pendleton, Caroline Marnoch of Portland and Natalie Carey of La Grande; cousins, Shannon Malcom, Kim Malcom, John Malcom, Mike Christy, Isaac Henslee and Alexis Henslee of Pendleton, John Carey and Brendan Carey of Portland and Steven Payne of La Grande.
