Irvin James Witten, age 66, of Union, died Sunday, June 19, 2005 at the Grande Ronde Hospital. A graveside service will be held on Saturday, June 25, 2005 at 11:00 a.m. the Hillcrest Cemetery in La Grande with Bishop Jerry Baxter conducting. A reception will follow at the Union Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Viewing will be from 4 p.m. until 6 p.m. on Friday, June 24, 2005 at Daniels Chapel of the Valley, 1502 7th Street, La Grande, Oregon.
Irvin James Witten was born on November 18, 1938, the son of Walter and Neva (Mathson) Witten in Perry. During his younger years Mr. Witten lived in Spokane, Durkey and Pendleton before settling in La Grande where worked for Union Pacific Railroad until his retirement in 2001. Mr. Witten enjoyed sports including track, football, and baseball, collecting coins and music as well as spending time with family and friends.
Survivors include his children and their spouses, Andrew Witten, Margaret and Thomas Leonard and Ben Witten all of Union; brother and spouse, Larry and Debra Witten of La Grande; sister, Linda Witten of Idaho; two grandchildren and other relatives and friends. His parents, son Matthew Witten, infant daughter Katharine Witten and a sister Barbara Newcomb all preceded him in death.
