Irene W. Smith

Irene W. Smith, age 85, of La Grande, died February 23, 2008 at a local care facility. A graveside service will be held on Thursday, February 28, 2008 at 2:00 p.m. at the Union Cemetery. Arrangements are entrusted to Daniels~Knopp Funeral, Cremation & Life Celebration Center. Those who wish may make contributions in her memory to the Shriners Hospital for Crippled Children in Portland.

Mrs. Smith was born on July 2, 1922, the daughter of Archie and Eunice (Griffith) Williamson in Brookhaven, Mississippi. When she became an adult she lived in Seattle for some time before moving to the Los Angeles area of California where she lived for 30 years. In June of 1984 she moved to La Grande to be near family. In the early 1990's her daughter, Judith Ann DeLeebeck lost her life in an automobile accident. She was an avid, avid reader.

Survivors include her sister, Vivian Burford of La Grande; half-sisters, DeLeatha Foster, Violet Crosby and Bonnie Johnson, all of Mississippi and Lou Coulder of Florida; three grandchildren and other relatives and friends. Her half brother, Lamar Allen preceded her in death.
