Irene C Patton

November 1, 1911 — April 3, 2010

Irene C. Patton, age 98, of La Grande and formerly of Greenleaf, Idaho and Elgin, died Friday in La Grande. A celebration of life will begin at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, April 8, 2010 at Daniels~Knopp Funeral, Cremation & Life Celebration Center. Committal and interment will be held at 3:00 p.m. Mountain-time (2:00 p.m. Pacific time) at the Greenleaf Cemetery in Greenleaf, Idaho.

Mrs. Patton was born on November 1, 1911, the daughter of Alexander Nathaniel and Edith M. (Littrell) Roller in Alva, Oklahoma. In 1929 she married Lewis Broska in Alva, Oklahoma and three months after their marriage he was struck by lightning and killed. She moved from Oklahoma to Burke, Idaho in 1939. During World War II she sky watched in Kellogg, Idaho where she met her future husband. On December 21, 1953 she married Ronald Lee Patton in Kellogg, Idaho. After his retirement from Bunker Hill County they moved to Greenleaf, Idaho. They moved to Elgin in 1972 to be near her family. He preceded her in death on November 30, 1982.
Mrs. Patton was a member of the Greenleaf Friendship Club and the Eagles Auxiliary in Kellogg, Idaho. She enjoyed making quilts, especially for her grandchildren, doing craftwork, crocheting and sewing. She was always very active. She was still canning jams and jellies in her later years. She knitted many caps and sweaters for the giving tree at Globe Furniture over the years. She also made cookies to send overseas to military personnel.
Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Gerald and Donna Doud of Elgin; step-children, Forrest Patton of Spokane and Kenneth Patton of San Diego; step daughter-in-law, Lu Patton; adopted son, Delbert Douty of Greenleaf; thirteen grandchildren; thirteen great grandchildren; thirteen great great grandchildren; half-brother, Clarence "Dean" Bates of St. Maries, Idaho; sister-in-law, Zella Roller of Grants Pass; and other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by great grandson, Seth Wayman Robinson, brother, Emerson Roller and sister-in-law, Pat Bates.
