Inez Lenore Fries

Inez Lenore Fries, age 98, of La Grande died November 29, 2004. A celebration of life will begin at 11:00 a.m. at Loveland Funeral Chapel. Mrs. Fries was born on March 26, 1906, to Miles M. and Katie Baker Woodell in Summerville. Both sets of grandparents were Summerville pioneers. She attended school in Summerville and Dry Creek, and attended college at Monmouth and Ashland. She taught at both Summerville and Dry Creek. Seventeen of her students were at a reunion at Dry Creek School that she attended at the age of 94.
On December 19, 1927, she married Henry W. Fries and the couple took over the Woodell farm in 1943. After his death she moved to La Grande in 1975.

Survivors include children, Leland Fries of Milwaukie and Newport, Thelma Rollins of Imbler and Milodene Bolen of Sweet Home; 10 grandchildren; 19 great grandchildren; 12 great great grandchildren; a sister, Marjorie Jarvis of La Grande, a sister-in-law, Myrle Woodell of Beaverton and other relatives. A brother, Lloyd Woodell and a sister, Ava Paul, both died earlier. Memorials may be made to the Sumerville Cemetery or the OES Cancer Research.
