Illa Lavon Dial

October 7, 1926 — August 4, 2004

Illa Lavon Dial, age 77, of La Grande, died Wednesday, August 4, 2004 at a local care facility. A graveside service will be held on Monday, August 9, 2004 at 11:00 a.m. at the Grandview Cemetery with Pastor Irwin Smutz officiating. Viewing will be held on Monday from 9:00 to 10:00 a.m. at Daniels Chapel of the Valley.

Mrs. Dial was born on October 7, 1926, the daughter of Albert and Bertha (Williams) Tiffany in La Grande. She graduated from Union High School and then from Eastern Oregon University with a degree in teaching. She taught school in Imbler and then at Greenwood Elementary School. She was a dedicated teacher who loved her students. In 1986 she was named Union County Teacher of the Year.

On July 20, 1952 she married James Dial in La Grande and he preceded her in death on June 30, 2000. She was a member of Hope Chapter #13 Order of Eastern Star, the Retired Educators Association and Delta Kappa Gamma. She enjoyed craftwork and crocheting and loved her dog, Katie.

Survivors include two nephews and six nieces, including Dixie Hofmann of La Grande and good friend, Glenna Sams of La Grande. Brothers, Albert, Clifford and Howard Tiffany and sister, Vera Thompson preceded her in death.
