Homer Lavern Ross

February 13, 1924 — March 15, 2012

Homer Lavern Ross, age 88, of La Grande, died Thursday, March 15, 2012 at his home. A graveside service will be held at the Grandview Cemetery Veteran's Circle on Friday, March 23, 2012 at 2:00 p.m.

Homer was born on February, 13, 1924, the son of Francis M. and Margaret (Spencer) Ross in Othello, Washington. The family moved to Oregon when he was 5 years of age. They lived in Gibbon and he graduated from Westin High School. After graduation he enlisted with the United States Army and served for twenty years. He was married to Muriel Helene Cline on August 3, 1943 in Corvallis, Oregon. She preceded him in death on May 13, 1986. After his honorable discharge he worked at the Post Exchange at Fort Lewis and later at Camp Adair, between Albany and Corvallis, until that post closed. He then was a department manager for Payless Drug Store in Corvallis until his retirement. On November 4, 1993 he married Phyllis Sjogren in Winnemucca and they made their home in La Grande. He enjoyed camping and fishing and was a member of several bowling leagues throughout his military career.

Survivors include his wife, Phyllis Ross of La Grande; children, Virginia "Ginny" Ross of Lebanon, Karen Dunning of Albany and Edwin Ross of Hillsboro; step-daughter, Shannon Posey of La Grande; brother, Merle Ross of Ukiah; three grandchildren, Timothy Marr, Anglique Martinez and Lisa Ross; one great grandson, Jacob Haliburton and another on the way.

Those who wish may make contributions in his memory to the GRH Hospice in care of Daniels~Knopp Funeral, Cremation & Life Celebration Center, 1502 7th Street in La Grande.
