Hillard T. "Chick" Hazelwood, age 85, of Elgin, died Wednesday, April 2, 2003 at a La Grande care facility.
A memorial service will be held on Monday, April 7, 2003 at 11:00 a.m. at the Christian Life Center in Elgin with Pastor Ovead Kennedy officiating. Private interment will be held later at the Elgin Cemetery. Arrangements are entrusted to Daniels Chapel of the Valley.
Mr. Hazelwood was born on February 2, 1918, the son of Howard and Myra (Tucker) Hazelwood at Cricket Flat near Elgin. He was educated in Elgin and on July 3, 1942 he married Dorothy P. Frazee in Payette, Idaho. She preceded him in death on August 25, 1981.
During World War II he served with the United States Army in North Africa. After his honorable discharge in December of 1943 he worked at various logging operations most of his life. He worked at Young & Morgon in Lyon, Oregon until his retirement in 1982. After his retirement he returned to Elgin. Mr. Hazelwood enjoyed people and family. He also enjoyed driving around the Elgin area.
Survivors include his sisters, Arlene Galloway of Elgin and Shirley Cox of Albany; three nieces; two nephews and other relatives and friends. A brother, Darrell, preceded him in death.
