Herbert Andrew Mcelvain

Herbert Andrew McElvain, 78, of La Grande, died Sunday at the Grande Ronde Hospital.

He was born in Lemmon, South Dakota on October 29, 1931 to the late Beryl and Margaret McElvain. Herbert graduated from Union High School in 1950. He married Ida May Herron on November 20, 1954 in La Grande. He served in the United States Army. He worked as an auto body repairman until his retirement in 1992.

Herbert was a member of the Rusty Wheels Antique Car Club. He enjoyed restoring vintage autos and was a wealth of information about them.

He is survived by his wife, Ida; his daughter, Teresa McElvain of La Grande; his son, Ron McElvain of Portland. He is also survived by 3 granddaughters and 3 great grandsons.

In lieu of flowers the family is requesting that donations be made out to the Oregon Cancer Society in care of Daniels~Knopp Funeral, Cremation & Life Celebration Center. A memorial service will be held on Tuesday at 11:00 a.m. at the Grandview Cemetery.
