Henry Owen McAdams Jr., 85, of Union, died April 18 at a care center in La Grande. His funeral service will begin at 10 a.m. Thursday at Loveland Funeral Chapel. Burial will be at Grandview Cemetery.
Henry was born Jan. 29, 1926, to Henry Owen and Agnes (Grimland) McAdams at Dallas, Texas. He graduated from high school at Cranfills Gap, a small community in the heart of Texas. He married Mary M. Kershner. He lived in several other states including California, Nevada and New Mexico.
Henry served during World War II in the U.S. Navy in the Asiatic Pacific on board the U.S.S. Briareus. He was employed by John Deere Tractor for a time. He was also a carpenter and a member of the carpenter's union.
Henry became an ordained minister. He was a pastor and evangelized for 57 years in several churches of the Assembly of God.
Henry enjoyed studying God's word and riding horses. He also enjoyed deer and elk hunting, fishing and camping. Henry was a member of the Oregon Ministry Network of the Assemblies of God and the Mission American Placement Service.
He is survived by his wife, Mary; children and their spouses, Mary and Thomas Schafer of Washougal, Wash., Henry Owen McAdams III of Phoenix, Ariz., Judy and David Daniels of Hermiston and Nancy and Pat Bruce of Union; siblings and spouses, J. Roy and Shirley McAdams and Lucille and Gerald White of Texas; eight grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Agnes; brother and sister, Grady Pete McAdams and Frances McElmurry; and granddaughter, Tami J. Daniels.
