Henrietta Angeline Ritchey

November 22, 1922 — March 28, 2009

Henrietta Angeline Ritchey, 86, of La Grande, died March 28 at Grande Ronde Hospital after suffering a heart attack.

A celebration of Henrietta's life will begin at 2 p.m. Thursday at Loveland Funeral Home. Viewing will run from 4 to 6 p.m. Wednesday.

Graveside services will be held at Willamette Veterans National Cemetery.

Henrietta was born Nov. 22, 1922, to Tony and Agnes Lawrence in Des Moines, Iowa. She was the third child of seven and the eldest daughter. As a child, Henrietta and her family relocated to Doniphan, Mo.

On Dec. 8, 1941, she married James Matthew Ritchey in Doniphan. The couple settled in La Grande in the early 1950s.

Henrietta loved to play Bingo, go bowling, read, do crossword puzzles and travel. She was a member of the Eagles and a lifetime member of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary, having been a past president and treasurer. Henrietta volunteered at the senior center.

She is survived by a sister, June and her husband, Austin Drewitt of Mount Vernon; children, James and his wife, Waynette Ritchey of

La Grande, Marie and her husband, Gary Pratt of Kelso, Wash., and Evelyn and her husband, James Wonner of Tacoma, Wash.; 12 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; and numerous other relatives.

She was preceded in death by her husband, James Ritchey; daughter, Carmen Johnson; grandson, Gary Pratt; siblings, Lorn Lawrence, Alvin Lawrence, Elnora McGuire, Charles Lawrence and Antona Ahnert.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be sent to the Union County Senior Center or the VFW Ladies Auxiliary.
