Helen Aletha Myers

November 19, 1916 — August 4, 2006

Helen Aletha Myers, age 90, of La Grande died August 4, 2006 at a local care center. The funeral will begin at 2:00 p.m. Saturday at the Fossil Baptist Church. A graveside service and burial will follow at the Fossil Masonic Cemetery. Sweeney Mortuary of Condon is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Myers was born January 8, 1916, to William and Belle Younce Crawford in Franklin, N.C. The family moved to Service Creek, and she graduated from high school in Wheeler County in 1934. On June 28, 1938 she married Edgar Mason Myers in Yakima, Washington. They lived in Klamath Falls, then Kinzua where he worked in logging. They later moved to Fossil where they had a ranch.

She was honored as grand marshall of the Wheeler County Fair Parade in 1990. She enjoyed gardening, embroidery, the outdoors and especially fishing for steelhead.

Survivors include three sons and their wives, John and Willie Myers and Jim and Deannie Myers, all of La Grande and Bob and Linda Myers of Cove; a brother, Bill Crawford of Portland; grandchildren, great grandchildren and other relatives. Her husband, two brothers and a sister all died earlier.
