Helen Louise Lawrence

November 2, 1924 — March 25, 2009

Helen Louise Lawrence, age 84, of Elgin, died March 25, 2009 at her home. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, April 4, 2009 at 1:00 p.m. at the Weston Cemetery in Weston, Oregon. An on-line guestbook is available with her complete obituary at www.danielsknopp.com.

Mrs. Lawrence was born on November 2, 1924, the youngest of 7 children born to Albert and Bertie (Gettings) Gould in Walla Walla, Washington. She graduated from Weston High School and was a member of the Weston Community Church. On October 13, 1941 she married Wayne James Lawrence in Lewiston, ID. He served with the United States Marines during World War II. In 1970 they moved to Kodiak, Alaska where she was the Assistant Vice President of National Bank of Alaska (now Wells Fargo). While living there they were members of the Snow Bruins Snowmobile Club, where Wayne served as President. In 1987 they returned to Oregon and made their home in Elgin. He preceded her in death on October 18, 1992. She was a member of the VFW Auxiliary, the ASPCA and the World Wildlife Fund. She had a special love of animals and loved to read and work crossword puzzles. She is known all over Eastern Oregon for her homemade bread and pies. She absolutely loved to watch live baseball and even traveled to Arizona with her Daughter to watch professional spring training during the cactus league. In her younger years she enjoyed sewing.

Survivors include her children, Greg Lawrence of La Grande, Jeanette Campbell of Portland and Thomas Lawrence of Elgin; grandchildren, R.J. Lawrence of Portland, Dawn Campbell of Eagle River, Alaska, Misty Campbell of Portland, Kristopher Campbell, Rachelle Lawrence of Portland; ten great grandchildren; and other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by all of her siblings, son, Roger Lawrence and granddaughters, Summer Campbell and Dion Lawrence.
