Helen Marie Hought

Helen Marie Hought, age 87, died October 10, 2004 at a local retirement community. Helen was born in Crosby, North Dakota on October 28, 1916 to Randolph and Martha Liog Kloster. Her parents came from Norway and homesteaded in North Dakota. She attended grade school at a small country school between Noonan and Crosby, then went to Crosby High School and graduated from Noonan High School in 1935. When in high school she had to board in town and worked for a doctor in exchange for her boarding.

In August 1935 Helen married Clair Hought in Noonan. Later that year they moved to Monroe. After moving to Portland, they later came to La Grande where they opened and ran Hought 24 Flavors Ice Cream Shop from 1951 to 1985. Helen and her husband loved to travel and visited every continent except Africa.

She is survived by her husband; two children, Charlottle McCoy of Wallowa Lake and Jim Hought of Portland; sisters, Ida Romsos and Vivian Joos of Crosby, N.D., Lillian Campbell of Portland and brother, Herman Kloster of Seattle; six grandchildren and two great grandchildren and several nieces and nepehws. She is preceded in death by three brothers and two sisters.

Celebration of life services will be held at Zion Lutheran Church, 902 Fourth Street at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, October 13, 2004. Viewing will be at Loveland Funeral Chapel on Tuesday from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. The family suggests memorials to the Zion Luthern Church Memorial Fund.
