Helen Joan Chandler

Helen Joan Chandler, age 91 of Elgin, died Monday, January 9, 2006 at her home. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, January 14, 2006 at 10:00 a.m. at the Elgin Community Center in Elgin.

Helen Joan Chandler was born on September 8, 1914, the daughter of Bill and Hulda Ohms in Elgin, Oregon. At a very early age, Helens mother died and she was raised by her father and her sisters. On September 23, 1931 she married Russell Chandler and together the couple raised two children, Virgil and Derrill. Helen and Russell spent winters in Arizona prior to Russell's death on June 2, 1989. She was a member of the Eagles Auxiliary. Helen enjoyed the outdoors, fishing, hunting, gardening and loved to travel with her husband and grandchildren.


Survivors include her children and their spouses, Virgil and Virginia Chandler of Salem, Oregon and Derrill and Audrie Chandler of Elgin; caregiver and grandchild, Linda Chandler of Elgin; four grandchildren; six great grandchildren; seven great-great grandchildren; companion Zoom Glasson and other relatives and friends. Her parents, husband; sisters, Verda Gray, Nellie Sullivan, Margaret Wiles and Gladys Chadwick all preceded her in death.
