Hazel Geraldine "Gerry" Haydock

June 21, 2004 — May 7, 2004

Hazel Geraldine McNeill Haydock, age 82 of La Grande, died Friday, May 7, 2004 at the Grande Ronde Hospital. A celebration of life will be held on Wednesday, May 12, 2004 at 11:00 a.m. at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Stake Center on Gekeler lane in La Grande with Bishop Wesley Rampton conducting. Interment will follow at Grandview cemetery. Family and friends may call from 4 p.m. until 6 p.m. on Tuesday, May 11, 2004 at Daniels Chapel of the Valley, 1502 7th Street, La Grande, Oregon 97850.

Hazel Geraldine McNeill Haydock was born on June 21, 1921, the daughter of Sidney Louis and Arvilla Elizabeth (Christenson) McNeill in Reith, Oregon. She was raised in La Grande and attended La Grande schools until her graduation in 1938. After high school she attended Beauty College in Salem. On April 25, 1943 she married Arthur Haydock in Tacoma, Washington. Together they lived in the Seattle area for a short time before moving back the Grande Ronde Valley where they raised their children. Geraldine and Arthur were later divorced.

She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints where she was very active in teaching primary school, being a board member for the relief society as well as singing in the church choir. She belonged the Beta Sigma Fi, and owned and operated the Cinderella beauty shop for many years. One of the great accomplishments in her life was spending 20 years hand stitching a cathedral window quilt. She enjoyed, traveling, cooking, tracing genealogy, sewing for herself as well as for her children and great-grandchildren, gardening and was a devoted mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and was a friend to all.

Survivors include her children and their spouses; James and Lynne Jellum Haydock of Caldwell, Idaho, Sandra and John Shannon of La Grande, Sally and Don Giles of Baker City, Oregon, and Marianne and Ralph Bolin of La Grande; eleven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren; a brother Sid McNeill of Walla Walla, Washington; sisters Leah Van Pelt of Forest Grove, Oregon, Jean Calvert of Siloam Springs Arkansas and other relatives and friends.
