Harry Lane Owen, age 94, of La Grande and formerly of Baker City, died, October 21, 2012 at his home. Viewing will be held on Thursday, October 25th from 4:00 until 6:00 p.m. at Daniels~Knopp Funeral, Cremation & Life Celebration Center, 1502 7th Street in La Grande. A funeral will be held on Friday, October 26th at 10:00 a.m. at the La Grande Church of Christ. Committal and Interment will follow at the Grandview Cemetery.
Harry was born on March 23, 1918, the son of Harry A. And Bertha Mae (Allen) Owen in College Place, Washington. He was raised in Weston, Oregon. In 1939 he was married to Murl Farrens. He served with the United States Navy from 1944 until his honorable discharge in 1946. He worked in many small sawmills in Oregon, including mills in Monument, Long Creek and Ritter. He later was a custodian for the Prineville school district. He then moved to Federal Way and managed apartments. His wife preceded him in death and he moved to Baker City. On June 19, 1999 he married Hannah Brown Owen in Baker City. In 2006 they moved to La Grande.
He was a devoted member of the Church of Christ in Federal Way and in La Grande. He served as an Elder for 15 years. He enjoyed fishing and RVing and his family considered him the best man in the world and he will be missed.
Survivors include his wife Hannah of La Grande; daughter, Karen Joyce Williams of Bartlesville, Oklahoma; son, Jerry Keith Owen of Lakeview, Oregon; five grandchildren; fifteen great grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews and other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by one brother and two sisters.
