Harry Collman

April 15, 1941 — April 8, 2011

Harry Collman, 69, died April 8 at his home with family at his side. A celebration of his life will begin at 11 a.m., Saturday at First Christian Church in La Grande.

Harry was born April 15, 1941, to Ernest and Blanche Collman in Sterling, Colo. He attended school in Sterling where he played football and was active in drama.

Upon graduation in 1959 he joined the Navy and served on a ship in Cuba. After the military, Harry married Geraldine McCabe and they had three children.

Harry moved to La Grande in 1970. Those who knew him say he remained a prominent citizen for the remainder of his life. He became owner/manager of R D Mac in 1973, and was voted businessman of the year by the Chamber of Commerce. He loved Union County and was a passionate supporter of its youth. He was a member of First Christian Church and

La Grande County Club and a lifetime member of the Elks Club.

Harry and Becky were married June 21, 1986. They enjoyed golfing, water sports, walking, going to movies and the theater, entertaining family and friends, and above all, playing with their 10 grandchildren.

They traveled extensively and enjoyed winters with their friends in Fountain Hills, Ariz.

Harry is survived by his wife, Becky; daughter, Penny and her husband, Joe, and their two children, of Denver; son, Jay and his wife, Suzie, and their three children, of La Grande; daughter, Cherill and her husband, Scot, and their four children, of Denver; stepson, Luke and his wife, Shauna, and their child, of Pendleton; mother, Blanche Blackburn of St. Paul, Neb.; and sisters, Cherill Mary of Portland, Harriett Anderson of Denver and Barbara Goettsche, of St. Paul, Neb.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be sent to the children's recreation program in La Grande in care of Minnie Tucker, City of La Grande, 2402 Cedar St. La Grande 97850.
