Harold LeRoy Dickenson, 82, of Cove, died May 22 at OHSU.

A graveside service was held today at Cove Cemetery. Lunch followed at the Cove Sportsman Club.

Harold was born July 25, 1926, to John Marion and Anna Elizabeth (Mohrland) Dickenson in Walla Walla, Wash. He graduated from Pendleton High School, and married Gilah Ferguson Dickenson Sept. 28, 1947, in Pendleton. He was employed as a lumber grader in the saw mill. He has lived in Union County for 55 years, moving from Pendleton.

Harold enjoyed doing leatherwork, making pack saddles, chaps, bridles and other things. Those who knew him say he was wonderful at woodworking and enjoyed hunting, fishing and trap shooting.

He was a member of the La Grande Gun Club and Union and Cove Sportsman clubs. He was also a member of the Zion Lutheran Church. Those who knew him say he had a great sense of humor, loved spending time with the grandchildren, and every Friday he would take the kids in for a snack. When camping with the grandchildren, he would make eggs "made to order."

He is survived by his wife, Gilah; three children, Tannis Dickenson of Stanfield, Teresia and her husband, Leonard Porfily of Summerville and Trudy Elliott and her husband, Kenny, of Middleton, Idaho; sister, Bette and her husband, Ken Capper, of Hermiston and Mary Jane Daggett of Hermiston; brother, Dean and his wife, Naomi Dickenson, of La Grande; nine grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandson.

Memorial contributions in Harold's memory may be made to the Veteran's Hospital or Doernbecher Children's Hospital.
