Harold Blank

October 7, 1912 — March 26, 2010

Harold Blank, 97, long-time resident of Cove, died March 26 at a local care center. A graveside service will begin at 2 p.m. Thursday at Cove Cemetery.

Harold was born Oct. 7, 1912, the son of Hugo and Pearl (Williams) Blank in Jefferson, Wis. He was educated in La Grande and Cove. He served his country with the U.S. Marine Corps and then worked for the Oregon State Police for many years in both Ontario and Arlington.
He was Cove's historian and served as grand marshal of the Cherry Festival Parade when it was resurrected.

Harold was a member of the Oregon Historical Society and the Union County Museum. He was a member of the Blue Mountain Humane Association and loved animals, especially cats and dogs. He was known for his photography and enjoyed visiting with people.
He always looked forward to the local Marine Corps birthday celebrations in November.

Survivors include his step-daughter, Rhonda Trottier of Calgary; nieces and a nephew; two step-grandchildren; and other relatives. He was preceded in death by sisters, Alta Blank, Evelyn Wood and Estella Puckett; and a brother, Robert Blank.

In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial contributions be made to Blue Mountain Humane Association or Cove Quick Response in care of Daniels-Knopp Funeral, Cremation & Life Celebration Center, 1502 Seventh St. in La Grande.
