Grover William Brooks

December 27, 1940 — December 30, 2009

Grover William Brooks, age 69, died December 30, 2009 at his home. A private family graveside will be held at the Island City Cemetery. A public memorial service will be held on Wednesday, January 6, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. at the Church of the Nazarene in La Grande.

Grover was born on December 27, 1940, the son of Raleigh and Addie Juanita (Lane) Brooks in Selah, Washington. After high school he served four years with the United States Coast Guard. On June 10, 1961 he married Patricia Ann Schofield in Yakima, Washington. They moved to La Grande in 1967 where Grover worked for Boise Cascade Particleboard Plant. In 1985 they moved to Illinois where he continued to work for Boise Cascade in particleboard sales. In 1999 they returned to La Grande upon his retirement.

Grover was a member of the Church of the Nazarene. He enjoyed fishing, woodworking,
dutch oven cooking and especially watching his granddaughter participate in her various sporting events. He volunteered and kept stats for both the La Grande High School Tigers and the Eastern Oregon University Mountaineers.

Survivors include his wife, Pat of La Grande; daughter, Kim Tally of Cove; granddaughter, McKenzie Tally of Cove; father-in-law, Earle Schofield; brother, Phil Brooks of Stanwood, Washington; sister, Thelma Lewis of Wenatchee, Washington and other relatives and friends.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests contributions be made in his memory to the
Imbler High School Booster Club or the Cove High School Library in care of Daniels Knopp Funeral, Cremation & Life Celebration Center 1502 7th Street, LaGrande, OR 97850.
