Gregory Joe Tsiatsos passed away on July 19, 2024 in La Grande, OR at the age of 92.
Greg was born at the original Grande Ronde Hospital on July 2, 1932 being the first of five children born to Gust Constantine and Matilda (Thomas) Tsiatsos. The family lived on a ranch in the Starkey, OR area, where Greg attended the Mt. Emily School through 8th grade. His education was completed in 1950 as a graduate of La Grande High School. While attending LHS, he met and fell in love with Doris Jean Gray and on October 1, 1949, they were married at her family's home in La Grande.
Greg spent his whole life on a ranch, raising cattle, breaking and riding the horses he loved, and doing a little farming so it was a natural transition when he and Doris became farmers and cattle ranchers, owning ranches throughout Union and Wallowa counties for the rest of their lives. Together, they raised three children, Sharon, Deena and Grant. After enjoying 72 years of married life with Greg, sadly, Doris passed away on January 1, 2022.
Besides ranching, Greg worked briefly for the section crew on the railroad before logging and working for Boise Cascade in Quality Control. Greg enjoyed logging, working the ranch and loved hunting (until his later years when he wouldn't shoot any animal). Second to his love for Doris, Greg loved raising and riding beautiful horses. He also possessed a love of family as he was raised with a community of people who lived in the Starkey area and the Greek men who came to this country with his father. Lamb bar-b-q's were a frequent activity of the community he loved and lived in. Reflecting his Greek heritage, Greg was baptized in the Greek Orthodox Church. In his later years, he began to yearn for the truth as it was written in the Word of God, spending time reading and learning about Jesus Christ, thanks to numerous friends.
Greg was preceded in death by his wife Doris Tsiatsos, his parents, Gust and Matilda (Thomas) Tsiatsos, his daughter and son-in-law, Deena and John Hale, his son Grant Gregory Tsiastos and a sister Kathryn Tsiatsos Meyers.
Surviving relatives include his daughter Sharon and her husband Fred Crampton of Starkey, OR, grandchildren, Rhonda Ross, Jason Crampton and wife Katie, Chris Tsiatsos and Deena and Darren Hahn and great grandchildren Caden Ross, Gus and Alison Hahn, and Bella Tsiatsos, sister Agnes Scott and husband Don, brothers Bill and wife Donna ,and Mark Tsiatsos and wife Sara and cousin Gus Tsiatsos who was brought to this country by Greg's father and was raised like a brother. Also many nieces, nephews and cousins.
