Grace Powell Banet, 93, died September 30 at a La Grande care center. A service was held on October 3. Grace was born on November 6, 1911, to Everett Powell and Alma Allbright in Clover, Indiana. She attended high school in Shoals, Indiana and then nurse training at Kosair in Louisville, Kentucky. On December 24, 1935 she married Joseph H. Banet in Indiana. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of La Grande and was involved in Bible study, women's groups and couples' groups at the church. Her hobbies included sewing, knitting, gardening and cooking. She was a great pie baker. Grace worked as a nurse in the Kosair Crippled Children's Hospital in Louisville until 1935. Then she worked at the Wittenburg University from 1957 to 1961 as a nurse at the Student Health Center.
Grace is survived by her daughter, Virginia "Ginny" Mammen and her husband Dale of La Grande; two grandchildren and two great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her husband, Joseph H. Banet; her parents; two sisters, Hazel Quimby and Ethel Ferguson and one brother, Thomas Powell.
