Gordon Duane Lee

October 3, 1933 — October 10, 2012

Gordon Duane Lee, age 79, of Union, died October 10, 2012 at the home of his son in Union. A funeral will be held on Sunday, October 21, 2012 at 10:00 a.m. at the Union High School gym. Committal and interment will be held on Monday, October 22, 2012 at 10:00 a.m. at the Union Cemetery. Arrangements are entrusted to Daniels~Knopp Funeral, Cremation & Life Celebration Center.

Gordon was born on October 3, 1933, the son of Gilbert "Gib" and Dorothy (Ritter) Lee in Baker, Oregon. He was raised in Halfway. After graduating from high school he joined the United States Air Force and was stationed in Ogden, Utah where he met his wife, Irene Laura Taylor and they were married for 55 years before her death in 2005. The couple lived in various places before moving to Union in 1967. He worked for the Boise Cascade Sawmill in La Grande until an accident forced his retirement. He was a huge supporter of children, especially Little League and softball. He was a member of the Bobcat Booster Club and the Union Stock Show. He volunteered for as much as he could over the years and will be missed.

Survivors include his sons, Troy Lee of Union and Rod Pierce of Kalispell, Montana; grandchildren, Mike Lee, Natasha Lee and Duston Lee; great grandchildren, Sklar and Amelia Lee; siblings, Cheryl Burke of Union, Bonnie King of Ogden, Utah, Donna Rueter, Mike Rueter of La Grande and Pat Rueter of Portland; numerous nieces and nephews and other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife and daughter-in0law, Michelle Lee.
