Glen D. Jones

January 28, 1930 — August 18, 2003

Glen D. Jones, age 73, died Monday morning, August 18, 2003 at his home in La Grande in the presence of his wife and children.


At his request no public services will be held. Arrangements are entrusted to Daniels Chapel of the Valley.


Mr. Jones was born on January 28, 1930 to Glen W. and Mildred (Jarrard) Jones in La Grande. He was raised and educated in Elgin, graduating with the Elgin High School Class of 1948. He then attended Eastern Oregon College (now Eastern Oregon University) for a short time until he was drafted into the Korean War Conflict. Mr. Jones served with the U.S. Army Signal Corps stationed in Germany where he received his honorable discharge. He met and later married Eula Simmons in Goldendale, Washington on August 22, 1953. Their children recently honored them by hosting a dinner in celebration of their Golden Wedding Anniversary.


Mr. Jones began an Electrical apprenticeship in 1955 and upon its completion in 1959 he was selected and honored as the State of Oregon Electrical Apprentice of the Year. After over 30 years service as a journeyman electrician he retired in January 1990.


Mr. Jones was baptized at the United Methodist Church of Elgin. He was a member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers, the La Grande Elks Lodge, the Eagles Aerie and the National Rifleman's Association. He was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed fishing, hunting, mushrooming and huckleberry picking. For the past several years he has made an annual fishing trip to Alaska to fish with his son who resides there.


Survivors include his wife, Eula; children, Cheryl Higgins and Karen Butler and her husband Bob, all of La Grande; Kevin Glen Jones and his special friend, Rita Huss, both of Palmer, Alaska; grandchildren, Elece Fiocchi and her husband, Robert, Brett Cornell, Jennifer, Holly, Emily and Rebecca Butler, Sarah and Cody Jones; great grandchildren, Maggie and Robert Glen Fiocchi; siblings, Jacque and Joe Ploium of Ridgefield, Washington; David and Debrah Jones and Richard and Brenda Jones of Spokane, Washington; Brian and Ann Jones of Nampa, Idaho; aunts, Elizabeth Bray of La Grande and Berta Jarrard of Cottage Grove, Oregon; other relatives and many friends. He was preceded in death by his parents.
