Gladys Martha Fager

March 15, 1911 — February 16, 2010

Gladys Martha Fager, 99, of Pendleton and Irrigon and formerly of La Grande, died Feb. 16. Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 19, at the Island City Cemetery.

Gladys was born March 15, 1911, to Mason Wright and Amy Viola True in Natoma, Kan. When she was an infant the family moved to Aurora, Colo., where she grew up and attended school until 1926, when the family moved to La Grande. She lived in La Grande until she moved to Pendleton in 1995.

Gladys met and later married Clarence Marquis in April 1931 and they later divorced. In August 1947 she married Fred L. Fager. She was a homemaker for most of her life, raising children through the Depression and war years. She raised a second family with Fred and took to his passion for hunting and fishing. She loved the outdoors and was always eager to go camping. In her spare time Gladys enjoyed crocheting, and family members each have a special afghan made by her hands.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 43 years, Fred; daughter, Shirley Reno; and siblings, Albert True, Alvin True and Lorena Stoop. Survivors include her daughters, Thelma Ansell of La Grande, Maxine Easley of Bend and Carol Hall of Pendleton; sons, Raymond Marquis of Irrigon and Robert Marquis of Carlton; and13 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren and several great-great-grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the John Vance Hospice program in Hermiston or to a hospice of choice. Family and friends are invited to sign the condolence book at burnsmortuaryhermiston.com.
