Gertrude Quigley, age 93, of La Grande and formerly of Lewiston, Idaho died April 14, 2009 at the Grande Ronde Hospital.
Gertrude was born on June 30, 1915 in Asotin, Washington, the daughter of George Monroe and Sara Ellen {Shaffer) Ross. She graduated from Asotin High School with the class of 1935. On December 10, 1938 she married Russell Quigley and they made their home in Lewiston. He preceded her in death on September 7, 1981. Gertrude worked in a cannery for a time and later did housekeeping and child care. She lived in Lewiston until 2000 when she moved to John Day to be near her niece, Glenna Isley and family. In 2006 she moved with the family to La Grande. She maintained her own apartment and lived and cared for herself. She had a terrific memory and enjoyed traveling, gardening, crocheting and was an avid reader.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, three brothers, Glenn, Fred and Marvin Ross and sisters, Grace Tady and Louise Pitchford.
Survivors include five nieces and three nephews and numerous great nieces and nephews, including special great great nieces, Arleigh and Eleanor Des Jardin of La Grande and other relatives and special friends.
