Gertrude Ida Davis, 94, formerly of La Grande, died April 29 at Hospice House in Kennewick, Wash. A graveside service will begin at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Summerville Cemetery. Viewing will be available from 9 a.m. to noon prior to the service at Loveland Funeral Chapel, La Grande.
Mrs. Davis was born Feb. 15, 1913, to John Thomas and Pearl Caroline (Foster) Shields in Sumpter. On Oct. 14, 1935 she married Rolla Mack Davis in Weiser, Idaho. They had been married for 59 years at the time of his death.
Until retirement, Gertrude was a nursing assistant at Valley View Manor. She loved to read, enjoyed oil painting and made many afghans over the years for each of her grandchildren. She loved to swim at the swimming pool in Baker City.
Survivors include her children and their spouses, Larry and Myrna Davis of Gresham, John and Terry Davis of Elgin, Keith Davis of Florida, Christine and John Showalter of Ketchikan, Alaska, and Pamela and Roy Quintero of Kennewick; sister, Lavina Balch of Baker City and 16 grandchildren. She was preceded in death by siblings, Foster Shields, Jack Shields, Fay Liden and Junia Love, and a granddaughter, Amanda Gurr.
