Gerald Spray

Gerald Spray, age 88, of La Grande, died Wednesday, November 23, 2005 at a local care facility. A celebration of life will be held on Monday, November 28, 2005 at 1:00 p.m. at Daniels Chapel of the Valley. Committal and interment will follow at the Union Cemetery. Viewing will be on Sunday, November 27, 2005 from 1:00 until 3:00 p.m. at Daniels Chapel of the Valley.

Gerald was born on November 16, 1917, the son of Ralph L. and Mable G. (Lucas) Spray in La Grande. He was raised in Joseph and graduated from Joseph High School. After high school he worked for the CCC's and then worked for eight years for the Railroad in Huntington.

While working there he met June Williams and they were married July 10, 1946 in Boise, Idaho. They made their home in La Grande and owned and operated Willow Grocery Store for thirteen years. He worked as a pipe fitter for Boise Cascade for 35 years, retiring in 1981. June preceded him in death on March 13, 2003.

Gerald was a member of the Eagles. He was an avid hunter and enjoyed fishing, horseback riding, watching sports on TV and spending time with family.

Gerald is survived by son and daughter-in-law, Rick and Shirley Spray of La Grande; grandchildren, Scott, Jackie, Jennifer and John Spray; great grandchildren, Trevor Spray and Jaxson Leonard; sister and brother-in-law, Virginia and Dick Satterlee of Yuma, Arizona; nephews, Dennis Spray and Gene, Jim and Mike Lovely; and other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by son, Gerald L. Spray in 1979 and brothers, Gordon L. and John C. Spray.
