Gerald Raymond McIntyre, age 66, of La Grande died Friday, September 23, 2005 at St. Mary's Medical Center in Walla Walla, Washington. A celebration of life will be held on Wednesday, September 28, 2005 at 10:00 a.m. at Daniels Chapel of the Valley with Rev. Bill Miller of Valley Fellowship officiating. Committal and interment will follow at the Grandview Cemetery. Viewing will be held on Tuesday from 4:00 until 6:00 p.m. at Daniels Chapel of the Valley.
Mr. McIntyre was born on July 17, 1939, the son of Willard and Mildred (Schlenbarger) McIntyre in Cambridge, Idaho. He was raised in Prineville and graduated from Prineville High School. During his high school years he was participated in football, track and basketball and held school records until recent years. He was senior class president and was selected to play on the Shrine All-Star Team. On December 31, 1960 he married Elizabeth "Ann" Martin in Ashland, Oregon. He served with the United States Army from 1962 until being honorably discharged in 1967. They lived in Prineville until 1970 when they moved to La Grande.
Mr. McIntyre worked for Boise Cascade until his retirement in January of 2000 due to illness. During that time he also was partners with Gene Stephens in G & G Construction. The partners remodeled homes and also built the local Union Hall. He was a member of the American Legion and was commander in Prineville for one year.
His family was of utmost importance to him and he enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren. He was an outdoorsman, enjoying fly fishing, camping and especially hunting. He enjoyed traveling and had a great sense of humor and was known as a jokester.
Survivors include his wife of 44 years, Ann McIntyre of La Grande; children, Kathy Caldwell of La Grande, JayDee Pohs of Charlotte, North Carolina and Matthew McIntyre of La Grande; grandchildren, Megan Caldwell of La Grande, Ryan Caldwell of La Grande, Cayla Pohs of Charlotte, Cody McIntyre of Elgin, Kyle McIntyre of La Grande and Grayson Pohs of Charlotte; father-in-law, Leo Martin of Eugene; sisters-in-law, Leona Graham of North Bend and Sarah Ezell of Eugene; and other relatives and many friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Leona Harrison.
