Gerald Sylvester Chrusoskie, age 80, of La Grande, died Sunday, December 3, 2006 at a local care facility. A celebration of life will be held on Thursday, December 7, 2006 at 2:00 p.m. at Daniels Chapel of the Valley. Committal and interment will follow at the Island City Cemetery.
Mr. Chrusoskie was born on April 2, 1926, the son of Barnaby and Vivian (Laidlaw) Chrusoskie in La Grande. He served with the United States Navy during World War II and after his honorable discharge returned to La Grande. He worked as a glazer for Miller's Cabinet for many years until retiring in 1991.
He was married to Charlotte Lee Spiker and they had five children. They divorced in 1966. In 1966 he married Essie "Belle" Smart and she preceded him in death on May 16, 2006.
Mr. Chrusoskie was a member of the Knights of Columbus, the Carpenter's Union, the Eagles Lodge, the VFW and the American Legion. He always loved doing carpentry, building houses and furniture. He also loved to garden, hunt and fish.
Survivors include his children, Kenneth Chrusoskie of La Grande, Phillip Chrusoskie of Imbler, Catherine Moore of Irrigon, Teresa Smith of Union and Charles Chrusoskie of Portland; step-children, Mike Sirrine and Matthew Sirrine, both of La Grande; brothers, Floyd Chrusoskie of Olympia and Everett Chrusoskie of Eagle Point; sisters, Edith Tucker of La Grande and Lorraine Chrusoskie of Philadelphia; six grandchildren; numerous great grandchildren and other relatives and friends.
