Gerald "Jerry" Joseph Ashton

Gerald "Jerry" Joseph Ashton, 67, of Prineville and formerly of La Grande, died Dec. 21. No service will be held at this time.

Jerry was born April 21, 1941, to Joseph and Ethel (Herr) Schmidlin in Rural, Wash.

He attended school in Prineville and worked in the sawmill and did some ranch work in the Prineville area. He moved to La Grande for approximately four years, then moved back to Prineville for the remainder of his life.

He married Joyce Romane in June 1967 in Sandy.

Jerry's hobbies included fishing, hunting, collecting scrap metal, dancing, picking mushrooms and listening to country and gospel music. He loved spending time with his children and grandchildren.

He was a past member of the Eagles Lodge in La Grande.

Jerry is survived by his sons, Kurt, Allen and Wayne Ashton, all of Prineville; ex-wife, Joyce Waibel of Prineville; three cousins; and three grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Ethel Schmidlin; two brothers; and two stepfathers.
