Georgia Emma Chappelle

July 31, 1922 — November 17, 2007

Georgia Emma Chappelle, age 85, of The Dalles, and formerly of La Grande, died Saturday, November 17, 2007. A funeral will be held on Friday, November 23, 2007 at 2:00 p.m. at Daniels~Knopp Funeral, Cremation & Life Celebration Center, 1502 7th Street in La Grande.

Mrs. Chapelle was born on July 31, 1922, the daughter of James W. and Myrtle Lafatame (Wale) Vickers, in Searcy, Arkansas. She was raised and educated in Arkansas and on December 10, 1945 she married Jasper Chappelle in Waldron, Arkansas. They came to Oregon in the early 1950's. She had a fun loving spirit, loved dancing, singing and yodeling. She won many ribbons in sprinting events and enjoyed family, friends, photography, music and watching horse races.

Survivors include her children, Robert Chappelle and his fiancé, Diane Harrison of La Grande, Vickie Bruins and her husband, James of Hermiston and Shirley Powell and her husband, Stephen of The Dalles; siblings, James Vickers of Orlando, Florida and Hugh Vickers and Melva Adair, both of Boonevile, Arkansas; grandchildren, Michael and Robbie Chappelle, Shawn Bruins and Michele Puentes, Melonie Reno, Terri Hove, Stephen, Chad, Brandon and Melonie Powell; sixteen great grandchildren and other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband in 1978 and siblings, Opal Meher, Johnny Vickers, Charles Vickers, Little Francis Vickers and Melvin Vickers.
